PHYSIOTHERAPISTS
Katie Galotta
Registered Physiotherapist
BScH., MPT
One of Katie's most valuable gifts that her education provided her was the ability to improve her own health. Her overarching goal is to empower her clients to achieve the same. She aims to assist them in developing life-long knowledge and skills to both treat and prevent injury. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Queen's University in 2013, followed by a Master of Physical Therapy degree at Western University in 2015. Additionally, she has undertaken postgraduate manual therapy training and is certified in K-taping and Functional Dry Needling.

With a background in psychology, she holds a strong interest in the mind-body connection. She utilizes this knowledge to adopt a holistic approach to physiotherapy treatment. This involves not only focusing on the immediate injury but also considering each patient's unique situation in order to develop an individualized treatment plan. Her treatments primarily combine manual therapy and exercise, all underpinned by education.

Travis
Nevakshonoff
Registered Physiotherapist
B.H.K. MPT Registered Physiotherapist
Born and raised in the Kootenays, Travis developed a passion for sports and movement early in life. He realised his childhood dream when he was selected and signed by the Milwaukee Brewers during the 2007 MLB draft. Unfortunately, he sustained an elbow injury which required surgery and more than 10 months of physical rehabilitation. This experience sparked his interest in physiotherapy and a desire to better understand how to prevent and treat orthopaedic injuries.
Travis would go on to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics at UBCO (2020) and a Masters degree in Physical Therapy at UBC in Vancouver (2022). He believes that movement is truly medicine and combines this principle with hands-on manual therapy techniques and education to help clients achieve their goals. Before joining Neumovement, Travis provided physiotherapy services at UBC Hospital in Vancouver as part of their total hip and knee replacement program.
Travis has a special interest in injury prevention, human motor control, athletic performance and sustainable training methods. When not in the clinic, he is likely playing golf, training or searching for the best coffee and food in Kelowna with his partner Taylor.

CHIROPRACTOR
Chiropractor
Dr. Shawna Tyler
Dr. Shawna Tyler, originally from Edmonton, Alberta, completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with distinction at the University of Alberta. As an undergraduate, she excelled as a national-level track and field heptathlete on the UofA varsity team. She went on to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic cum laude with clinic honours from Toronto's Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2005. After graduating, Dr. Tyler returned to Alberta and established her clinic in Calgary, where she practiced for 14 years. In 2017, she married and welcomed a son in 2018, prompting a move to the Okanagan in interior BC to raise her family and serve the local community.

As a former high-performance athlete who experienced chronic low back pain, Shawna developed a deep understanding of the impact of ongoing pain. Her personal experience and successful rehabilitation in her practice have reinforced her belief that a life free of pain and limitations is attainable for everyone. Shawna's treatment approach is three-fold: detective work to uncover the root cause of injury, physical skill in applying techniques, and connection with patients. She combines chiropractic manipulation and soft-tissue therapies such as Active Release Technique (ART), Graston Technique, and Kinesiotaping. An advocate for Pilates rehabilitation, Shawna integrates these methods to help clients achieve their full potential. She empowers patients by educating them about their condition, clearly outlining her treatment plan, and providing practical techniques to aid their recovery.
MASSAGE THERAPISTS
Akela Derksen

After attending university in Ontario, Akela relocated back to beautiful British Columbia to complete her Registered Massage Therapy diploma at Okanagan College of Massage Therapy and graduated in 2019. Akela deeply believes that movement is medicine and that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. Her treatment style uses a sports massage approach with techniques such as hydro therapy, PNF stretching, myofascial release, and Swedish massage to help improve muscle imbalances and biomechanics, as well as promote tissue healing. She also uses body awareness and therapeutic exercise to help her patients understand the mind-body connection.

Akela and her husband own a hobby farm outside Kelowna and she spends most her free time gardening, looking after her chickens, and exploring the many hiking trails in the area with her dog, Franklyn. Falling in love with all genres of dance, she spent countless hours in the studio as a competitive dancer and instructor. Naturally, Taylor was quickly introduced to the world of physiotherapy to aid minor injuries and support my training.
Graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a desire to help others achieve their preventive and rehabilitative goals, I completed the Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant diploma program at Vancouver Community College.
